Any Difference in Games in Other Countries?

dkitty_154 asked:

Does anyone know if video games here are different from the UK? Like Nintendo 64 for example… someone once mentioned to me about it being different then the US and Canada’s games and you would be unable to play it if it was from the UK. Well, I’m looking on eBay and they look the exact same and have the same box and instructions… so I’m wondering if anyone knows if there’s a difference…

Yea there’s a difference all right. They use different region codes. The European consoles use the PAL versions, all consoles and games are played in PAL version, whereas the American version is a NTSC region, that uses NTSC consoles and games.

A PAL game CANNOT be played on an NTSC console for example. They must both be from the same region.

Be careful what you shop for.

TV standards in the UK are different. They started later with TV so their resolution is higher, close to high def. So, their video game systems can show higher resolution, though not all games necessarily take advantage of it.

Also, the games can be a bit racier than the US versions.
