It was a game called “Nim” – on the NIMROD Computer (May 5, 1951)

The first video game console (a machine that connects to the TV to play games) was the Magnavox Odyssey. It was released in 1972.

As for the first video game, that’s much more complicated. Wikipedia has a nice summary of everything.

It was a version of Pong actually, put on the Oscilloscope. It was made by Ralph Baer after the company he worked for asked him to make a TV. Baer suggested some sort of interactive game for the TV, but his company turned him down. He went ahead and made it anyway.
