Let us assume you have constantly enjoyed sketching and doodling. Your innovations have frequently brought a grin to the face of a few. Then you will well be on the path to a career in animation. Mind you, theres a good deal more to the picture we’ve just given. To start with there’re many sectors of animation that one can specialise in. For example, there are job opportunities in the major media like TV and film. Then there is the new world of the internet and CD-ROM. A couple more opportunities can be added to the list too. To make it even more amusing inside these major categories there’re sub categories when you could actually take your specialty to the limit.

Say you’ve a budding interest in this field then you’re likely aware of the terms 2D and 3D animator. Dont be fooled into thinking that 3D has replaced 2D. It is the very skills of the 2D animation that has made 3D possible. There is zero indication that 2D animation will become outdated.

Nearly all of the developed skills of 2D animators have come through life drawing and compositions. These’ve been the two leading elements but these’ve been combined with some other components also such as studies in proportions, structure, lines of action and naturally elementary anatomy. An understanding of how and what makes us move could lend to the success of a 2D animator. As if there are not enough skills involved to the list, we got to add slugging, story-boarding, character design and clean up. No doubt if you talk to few 2D animators, they have several additional duties to add to their regime.

For the 3D animator you can sum up each of the above plus a couple of more. The focus for this region centers on modeling, texture and lighting as in fits into the scope of the 3D environment. They fast learn how to get the most out some of the soft-ware packages useable to them in their line of work.

The story board artist has to be one of the most creative people in animation. They are setting the base for the story. They must have a outstanding imagination and superior visualisation capabilities. And then they got to be well-structured in order to preserve the continuity. There are frequently positions open for helpers here but most often, there’s not much glamour at that level of the industry. Its an outstanding stepping stone to move up in the ranks of animation.

Presently the layout artist produces the foundation. In other words, he provides the background for the scenes gleaning the necessities from the storyboard. In essence, theyre a rough copy of a succeeding work.

Just in case you think, you’ve learned it all there’s another department that must be given attention and thats the i -between. You should become familiar with this position and its requirements because it’s the most likely place where you’ll have the opportunity to break into the industry.
