The Leading Man – British backstage show romance in regards to an American film megastar who seduces a playwright’s lonely wife and his leading-woman mistress. When it might not make up its mind whether it is a comedy tirade or a light thriller, it is still tremendously humorous stuff. Bon Jovi is excellent as the brash, unscrupulous Yankee, and Galiena and Newton are enticing as the females snared in his web. Adam’s Apples – This movie is a bizarre sinister comedy about two very diverse men who have a battle of wills. It is a newly developed religious zealot versus a hard core neo-Nazi criminal. Straight Time – Hoffman knocks heads with sleazy parole officer Walsh following his discharge from prison and starts a downhill skid. An immersing if not specifically differentiated melodrama that gets a true shot in the arm from remarkable acting by the supporting cast. Forgetting Sarah Marshall – Here is a romantic comedy set in a picturesque resort in Hawaii. After being dumped by his girlfriend Sarah, he finally decides to go to Hawaii to get over the loss. Unfortunately, when he goes to check in at the resort, the first person he sees is Sarah, and of course her new boyfriend.
Rent-a-Kid – While the person in charge of an orphanage takes a holiday, father Nielsen takes over with a proposal to produce money by renting out kids. While predictable, this daft premise is unpredictably effective. In due course 3 children are rented by a stylish ’90s couple thinking about adopting. A good family film.
