Books To Movies From One Of America’s Most Favored Authors

Since 1989, John Grisham has been a favored American writer. Concentrating mostly on legal fiction, his books have sold over 250 million copies throughout the world. During the time of this writing, he has authored 17 legal fiction works with one more expected, 4 non-legal novels then one non-fiction bestseller. There have been 10 movies made from his writings, along with one in the works.

The initial movie from one of his novels was “The Firm” from 1993. Tom Cruise plays a Harvard law school graduate who starts working for a Memphis lawyer with connections to the underworld. At the same time starring Jeanne Tripplehorn and Gene Hackman. Again in 1993, the second movie coming from a Grisham book came out. “The Pelican Brief” starring Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington.

In 1994, “The Client” was released. In this film a young boy accidentally witnesses a suicide and he is consequently chased by the mob for what they think the dying man may have told him. “The Client” starred Susan Sarandon, Tommy Lee Jones and the late Brad Renfro.

The very first novel written by Grisham was converted into a movie in 1996. “A Time to Kill” introduced the world to a rising handsome new actor, because it was one of Matthew McConaughey’s first leading roles. Also it also featured Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey. “The Chamber” with Chris O’Donnell, Gene Hackman and Faye Dunaway also came out in 1996.

In 1997, “The Rainmaker” with lead actor Matt Damon as a rookie lawyer who takes on the case of a boy denied treatment by a big insurance carrier. In 1998, the sole movie from Grisham which was based on an unpublished manuscript premiered, “The Gingerbread Man” starring Kenneth Branagh and Robert Downey, Jr.

From the four non-legal works of fiction by Grisham, two have been made into films, “A Painted House” in 2003 and the holiday favorite, “Christmas with the Kranks” starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis which was adapted from the amusing tale “Skipping Christmas”.

“The Runaway Jury” starring Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman, John Cusack and Rachel Weisz was released in 2003. The next movie is planned for release in the year 2012. It is “The Associate”, which was released as a novel in January 2009.

With 22 published works and one more expected in November 2009, 10 movies and another expected in 2012, John Grisham has been one of the most prolific and popular writers in recent times. You can now download the any of the films that you missed and view right from your computer or television.
