Paladin Leveling – Picking The Race And Heading Out To Your First Town

by Lindsey H. Stuedemann

Paladin leveling isn’t as easy as pie as leveling guides would like you to believe. It is a very complex class that requires a lot of thinking for you to be able to get every drop of efficiency from your character. If you’re gearing it to be the best in WoW, that is. But, if you’re just a casual player, this class makes for an excellent character.

Choosing your race is perhaps the first challenge you’ll face in Paladin leveling. You may need to take your character to its abilities’ limit so you can stand a better chance of defeating your opponents as the game progresses. However, efficiency aside, the race of your character may not be a huge an issue for you. That said, it is still nice to have a great looking character even when all you’ll see of it is its backside.

Paladin Races In the original World of Warcraft, Paladins are an alliance-only class. However even in the Alliance, the Dwarves and Humans are the only available choices. With the coming of the Burning Crusade, the Paladins were opened to the Horde class Blood Elves and the Alliance class, the Draenei.

Humans are quite probably the best race for Paladins. Humans get to have 10% on Reputation, Passive Strength, Spirit, Sword and Mace Specialization, and a few trinket slots that could come in handy in PvP mode.

Dwarves are, well, a good choice look-wise. Their looks aside, Dwarves get Cold Resist, a bonus on find treasure, Stoneform, and a bonus on Guns which isn’t really useful since they are incapable of handling one.

The Draenei as a class is a much better choice than Dwarves when looking at their efficiency as fighters. This class has the Gift of Naaru – a HoT spell that costs nothing to use, a bonus on Jewelcrafting, 1% bonus on hit, and Shadow Resistance. The extra heal could be very useful if you are planning to go deep into the Retribution build. The extra 1% on hit though is handy for all Draenei Paladins.

If you’re playing the Paladin the Horde style, you don’t have a choice but to be a Blood Elf. Fortunately, Blood Elves make for excellent Paladins. They have the Arcane Torrent which gives you excellent fight control, a good bonus on Enchanting, a bit of Magic Resistance and a tiny bit of mana drain. Over all, the Bloods Elves aren’t a bad choice…not at all.

After choosing your Paladin comes the first 10 levels of your game. Nothing much to say here except a few quests and training you will undergo. This isn’t your first time playing WoW? Well, that rule still sticks. That’s the best strategy you could follow PLUS you can find precious gold and gears in doing so.

Heads up – your character will spend its first 5 levels in its starting town. Learn as much as you can from your trainer – abilities and spells then head off to your second town. In your next town would be the new trainer who would pretty do the same thing as your first. Do the same thing here – learn all the spells and abilities you can AND skill your weapon. That’ll only take you a few minutes to hours so don’t skip that.

At this point, you should get a Paladin leveling guide that can help you deal with levels 10 and beyond. For now, that’s all you’re going to learn.
